Samini Denies Political Favouritism After GTA Visit
Reggae dancehall star Samini is speaking out after online rumours swirled around his recent visit to the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) office.
Appearing on Prime Time with George Quaye, the celebrated musician set the record straight, saying his visit was strictly professional and not politically motivated.
He had gone to introduce his tourism-related project to industry figures like Abeiku Santana and KOD, with hopes of also connecting with Rex Omar.
Samini expressed disappointment over the political spin being attached to what he called a simple courtesy call. A miscaptioned social media post, he explained, led to speculation that he had received favours or gifts because of political connections.
“That caption suggested I was invited and then given a slice of bread as a gift,” Samini said. “Implying that when your party is in power, you cut up the bread and pass it only to supporters.”
He criticised the tendency of some party loyalists to twist every public appearance into a political statement, saying free speech and independent thought should not be sacrificed for blind party loyalty.
Samini reminded Ghanaians that the GTA exists to serve everyone, not just those aligned with a particular party. Tourism is open to everyone. Anyone in tourism should feel free to walk in and do business,” he said.
As conversations around politics and the creative arts continue, Samini’s firm response has drawn attention to the need for inclusivity and professionalism in national institutions.
He’s also preparing to release his eighth studio album, ORIGIN8A, later this year, bringing his focus back to what he does best: music.
