The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, has inaugurated a new 14-member committee for the Savannah Regional Lands Commission.
This move is seen as a step toward improving land governance in the region.
The committee, chaired by Kulukuwura Alhaji Sachibu Harruna, brings together a diverse mix of professionals.
Members include representatives from farmer and fisher groups, the Ghana Bar Association, traditional authorities, and all seven districts in the region.
The group is expected to support responsible land management and guide sustainable development.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Deputy Minister underlined the central role land plays in shaping the nation’s progress. He expressed hope that with good stewardship, the Savannah Region could unlock its full potential.
“Land is a catalyst for socio-economic development, and the government considers its proper management a national priority,” he said.
He encouraged the committee to work closely with local leaders and communities to improve land registration and public awareness of the Land Act.
The region’s large land size, he noted, offers a unique chance to create opportunities for youth and reduce social challenges such as substance abuse.
Chairman Harruna shared his vision of making land administration more transparent and efficient.
His plans include introducing alternative ways to resolve disputes, encouraging formal land ownership, and preventing haphazard development.
The Savannah Regional Lands Commission now begins its work with a clear mandate to shape the region’s land use in a way that supports long-term growth and community wellbeing.
