Senegal crowned CHAN 2022 Champions

Senegal defeated Algeria 5-4 on penalties in the CHAN 2022 championship match on Saturday, crushing Algeria’s aspirations of winning the tournament at home.

The final, which would crown a new champion for the continental competition organized for players who compete in their domestic leagues, began with both teams appearing anxious.

Both coaches Madjid Bougherra and Pape Thiaw made some adjustments in the second half to enhance their effort while retaining a balanced perspective on the game.

The Senegal bench was on the edge of their seats as Senegal came close to scoring in the 56th minute, but Diallo’s long-range attempt from beyond the box flew over the crossbar.

The Senegalese kept their shape as Mahious made a wonderful run into the box from the centre to pass to Zakaria Draoui and then Belkhither in the box, whose shot was stopped by Ousmane Diouf.

After regular time and extra time ended goalless, it was time for penalties. Senegal was crowned champions after Algeria’s Ahmed Kendouci missed his kick.
