Seven arrested for ‘scrambling’ over stolen money
The police have arrested seven people for their involvement in the ‘chase and scramble’ for stolen money incident that happened recently in Tema.
On April 23, the police gunned down two robbers after the exchange of a hail of fire between the police and the alleged criminals not long after the robbers snatched more than GH₵ 100,000 from a Lebanese businessman and his partner in Tema.
The two robbers had trailed the victims who had gone to withdraw the money from the Tema Community One branch of the Zenith Bank.
Passers-by at the crime scene saw the situation as an opportune one and scrambled for the stolen which had scattered all over because of the shoot-out between the police and the robbers.

Updating the public on the incident, the police in a statement said that “the seven persons were arrested for taking part in scrambling for various sums of money amounting to GH₵ 120,845.”
The seven persons have been charged with stealing. Three out of the seven have admitted to taking part in the said action.
The three are 30-year-old Richard Attoh alias Amartey; 31-year-old Qaadir Bancey; and 36-year-old Awudu Mohammed alias Vuga.
According to the police, the three pocketed GH₵ 2,500 from the loot.
The remaining suspects are Sulemana Bancey, 62; Kwesi Hanson Smith, 66; Kabul Akuaku, 53 and David Nartey Daniels, 30.
The police have urged the general public who witnessed the incident to assist them with information to arrest and retrieve the stolen money.
