SHOCKING! Thieves steal 500 meters of ECG cables in Gomoa Dominase
Some thieves have stolen cables attached to more than 10 electricity poles in Gomoa Dominase, located in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, leaving residents in darkness.
Over the past three months, cable theft has surged in Gomoa East, Agona West, and nearby areas, creating disruptions in power supply and compromising security.
The most recent incident took place when thieves targeted a poultry farm in Gomoa Dominase, damaging several electric poles and making off with cable covers totalling over 500 meters.
Ibrahim Sulemana, the caretaker of the poultry farm and an eyewitness to the incident at Gomoa Dominase Junction, narrated in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Adom News that the criminals struck around 12:30 a.m., toppling one pole and stripping cables from over 10 others.
In response, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) branch in Winneba has called on the public and security agencies for assistance in arresting the culprits to address this growing issue.
There have been several reports of thieves cutting off and stealing electricity meters fixed on electricity poles at night.
Recently, the Weija Circuit Court remanded a 21-year-old unemployed young man, Bismark Owusu, into police custody for two weeks for stealing and damaging electricity meters belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), valued at GH₵10,000.
Court documents indicate that the accused was being beaten by a mob at Choice, near the Weija Police Barrier in Accra, when a complainant in the matter rescued him from his attackers and sent him to the New Weija Police Station, thereby saving him from being lynched.
