Sick SHS student dies in dormitory after being denied exeat
A second-year student of the Dwamena Akenten Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has died in his dormitory after he was allegedly denied exeat to go home for medical attention.
Some students of the school told Starr FM that the deceased complained of ill health on Sunday, February 9, 2020, but the senior housemaster refused his request to go home for treatment.
According to the students, the condition of their colleague kept deteriorating yet, school authorities seemed unperturbed.
The deceased, a General Arts student whose name is yet to be made public, was found on the floor of his dormitory after school hours, one of his colleagues told Starr FM in an interview.
The station’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Isaac Bediako, reports that the student vomited blood and eased himself prior to his demise.
The body was reportedly rushed to the St. Patrick’s hospital by some of the teachers, where he was pronounced dead Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
Family of the Form 2 student is yet to be communicated to whereas school authorities are also yet to comment on the matter.
Students reaction
Some students have accused school authorities of feet dragging in dealing with emergency cases.
According to them, authorities always fail to transport sick students to the hospital, leaving colleague students to rush to town for taxis to convey the sick to the hospital for medical attention.
They have threatened to demonstrate against school authorities over their reluctance in attending to their urgent needs.
This is very sad. The house master must be brought to book

Very sad story. GES has to embark on nationwide orientation in schools, in order to enhance good relationship b/n teachers students so that many of such problems can be mitigated.

Hmmm sad news to hear
Is the ambulance service not available in the area?Institutions should teach every student how to call the ambulance as a preventive measure, the emergency number must be placed at vantage points not wait until a calamity of this magnitude ie death occurs and blame game starts. May he RIPP.
