The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has resumed the disbursement of second-semester loans to tertiary students across Ghana.

The renewed disbursements come in the lead-up to the launch of the “No-Fees-Stress” initiative, an intervention aimed at reducing the financial strain on students pursuing higher education.

As of July 1, 2025, loans have been distributed to 19,703 students, with a particular focus on those enrolled in private tertiary institutions.

The SLTF explained that this decision was based on the fact that private institutions typically operate on a more advanced academic calendar than public ones.

In a statement, the SLTF reassured students of its renewed capacity and commitment to timely financial support:

“The days when the Trust Fund approved students for loans it couldn’t disburse are over,” the SLTF said. “The revamped Fund is now working daily to fulfil its mandate of providing timely financial support to students.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the Fund, Dr. Saajida Shiraz, shared the update in a post, emphasising the importance of this development in improving access to tertiary education across the country. The move is widely seen as a crucial step toward strengthening the nation’s student financial aid system.
