Sokode SHS closed after violent clash between students and residents
The Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has temporarily closed Sokode Senior High Technical School following a clash between students and residents of the Sokode community.
According to reports, some students left the school premises without permission to confront some residents of the town on Friday, February 21, 2025.
This escalated into a fight that caused injuries to one resident.
In a reprisal attack on Sunday, February 23, some young men from the town also besieged the school.
However, the students, who were about 1000, overpowered the residents, who were only about 10.

The clash resulted in injuries to the residents and some students.
They also damaged some properties on the school compound.

It took the intervention of the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, who deployed security officers to restore calm.
The authorities, after extensive deliberation with the management of the school, decided to close the school until further notice.
The school authorities arranged for buses from nearby Senior High Schools to transport students back to their respective destinations.
Some teachers who spoke under anonymity said the students may not return to school until the next term.
Meanwhile, the injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital.
Many of them who sustained minor injuries are expected to be discharged soon.
