Sports Minister criticizes Ghana amputee national team for visiting John Mahama before him

Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has lashed out at the Ghana Amputee Football team, the Black Challenge, criticizing their acceptance of external donations before visiting him.

Ussif’s ire stems from the team’s acceptance of a $10,000 donation on July 12, 2024, in recognition of their consecutive AFCON victories, presented by former President John Mahama, an NDC presidential hopeful.

The Minister contends that the team should have first engaged with his office.

“When you come after the successes and there’s anything, the first point of call is this office [MoYS]. We’re not going to tolerate you using the state for your personal benefits,” the Minister said.

He also added: “Unlike last year, this time when you landed and you came here directly, this year you started going from one place to another without any records to the government who sponsored you, and that cannot be tolerated.”

The Black Challenge clinched their second consecutive AFCON title by defeating Morocco in the final.
