A man believed to be in his 30s was electrocuted at an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) substation at Adoato, in the Ashanti while attempting to steal a cable.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025, according to the Public Relations Officer for ECG Ashanti West, Benjamin Obeng Antwi.

Mr Antwi said this led to a power outage across several areas in the Ashanti regional capital.

He explained that the suspected cable thief attempted to tamper with an earth cable, which triggered his electrocution.

This is the latest in a series of recent attacks targeted at ECG infrastructure, including transformers, cables, and protective equipment.

ECG is, therefore, warning the public to desist from such acts as they do not only affect power supply, but also endanger their lives.
