Take advantage of ‘Year of Return’ – Tourism Authority urges hospitality industry

The Ghana Tourism Authority is advocating for hoteliers, restaurant managers and other stakeholders in the hospitality industry to work towards taking advantage on the expected increase in tourist visits in 2019.

According to the authority, management of these facilities should place an emphasis on innovation and customer satisfaction.

Delivering a welcome statement at the Appreciation Luncheon for 2017 Major Sponsors and Launch of 2018 Sponsorship Drive event at the Royal Senchi Hotel, the Eastern Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority Frederick Adjei-Rudolph called on all hospitality managers in the Eastern Region to position their businesses well to attract more patrons.

“I will like to re-echo one major promotional event the Authority and the Tourism Ministry is championing to boost inbound tourist arrivals in 2019 and beyond, this is under the theme (Year Of Return, Ghana 2019). This is a major spiritual and birthright journey inviting our African American and Diaspora brothers and sisters to visit Ghana,” he said.

“It marks 400 years of the first enslaved African arriving in Jamestown Virginia, the Ghana Tourism Authority under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is leading the project in collaboration with the office of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, the Panafest Foundation and the Adinkra Group of the USA,” he added.

Mr. Frederick Adjei-Rudolph added, “starting from this month till the end of the year, a series of programmes and event attractions will be organized across the country and as a region abound with rich history and culture, natural and breathtaking sights, how we position ourselves to direct significant traffic of tourists to the region during this period is of great importance.”

He therefore called on all private sector tourism stakeholders to partner the Ghana Tourism Authority in the Eastern Region to sensitize and galvanize every single promoter of tourism businesses to be very professional in service delivery.

He also urged them to come up with innovative and exciting programmes that will attract their fair share of the millions of tourists expected in Ghana this year to visit the Eastern Region.

“We must not be left out of this historic pilgrimage of our brothers and sisters from the diaspora to Ghana,” he concluded.
