TaTU: SRC, Management agree on 8.5% fee increment

Management of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has increased its fees by 8.5 percent instead of an initial 15 percent increment.

This comes after a meeting between the Central Admissions Board and the leadership of the Students Representative Council (SRC).

Students of the university on Friday, March 17, 2023, boycotted lectures due to a 15 percent increment in school fees.

Meanwhile, a Memorandum from the SRC President to the students, dated Wednesday, March 22, 2023, said after successful discussions, the management and the SRC have come to a consensus.

It also urged the students to “endeavor to cooperate with this adjustment as we continue to push through other student grievances.”

The students had earlier argued that they were not against the 15 percent increment but against the timing of the action.

On March 10, The students massed up at the school’s administration to present their grievances to school management.

The majority leader of the student’s Parliament, Abdul Razak Aziz said “management took this decision without us, which makes the outcome invalid. Per our laws, the SRC is supposed to be involved in such decisions. We thus do not recognize whatever decision they have taken.”

But the management denied the increment stating that it was only a proposal.
