These major roads will be blocked on Thursday ahead of Akufo-Addo’s inauguration

Major roads in the country’s capital, Accra, will be blocked ahead of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s swearing-in on Thursday, January 7, 2021.

The Ghana Police Service Motor Traffic and Transport Department(MTTD) has announced that some roads within and around Parliament will be blocked.

Motorists heading to and from Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on the Lokko Street, Castle Road from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Crossroad heading towards Starlet 95 Street will have to find an alternative route.

Also, the Independence Arch road near the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue (Ghana Institute of Journalism), the Haile Selassie Street, Opeibea, 37 Military Interchange and Ako Adjei on the Liberation road will be blocked.

But some vehicles have been exempted – vehicles of VVIP’s expected at the event have been issued with passes to enable them to drive through the roadblocks to the State House.

Vehicles of all dignitaries with invitation cards or role players with accreditation would also be allowed entry through roadblocks to their assigned parking avenues.

Also, individuals issued with accreditation tags may walk through the roadblock to Parliament house.

The police have explained that the roadblock is necessary to ensure security, safety and smooth vehicular movement for the inauguration of the President-Elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other dignitaries who would be coming for the programme.
