This is the real reason Ablekuma North has no MP in Parliament

Nearly one month after the commencement of the 9th Session of Parliament under the Fourth Republic, the Ablekuma North Constituency remains unrepresented in the legislature as the two women contesting the seat continue to lock horns.

Presently, Ewurabena Aubynn, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Nana Akua Afriyie, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have both put up billboards thanking their constituents, even though the Electoral Commission (EC) has not declared any winner.

Providing an update on the situation, Deputy Director of Research at the Electoral Commission (EC), Fred Tetteh, has disclosed that the collation of results will resume once security concerns are addressed.

Following several suspensions of the collation in the aforementioned constituency, a High Court on January 4, 2025, ordered the EC to resume the collation in Ablekuma North.

Subsequently, the EC resumed the collation on January 17, 2025, but the exercise was again suspended due to an attack by some unknown persons at the EC office on the day of the collation exercise.

Mr. Tetteh says the EC would not proceed with the collation if adequate security is not provided at the centre because they don’t want another chaos.

“In terms of the status as of now, the Commission is ready to go ahead to complete the three polling stations that are left to be added for the final declaration to be made,” he stated.

“We have written to the police to provide security for us because we don’t want what happened on January 17 to reoccur. We are just waiting for the police to provide us with security, then we can go ahead with those three polling stations. The results are ready for us to just add up and declare the winner,” he explained in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Citi News.
