Thomas Partey to miss Arsenal’s Champions League semis first leg against PSG
Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey will miss the first leg of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League semifinal tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
The veteran Black Stars midfielder picked up a yellow card in the 85th minute in the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, which had Arsenal progress via a 5-1 result on aggregate.
The London side bagged a 3-0 win over Champions League record winners Real Madrid in the first leg. It repeated its winning touch courtesy of goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
Partey delivered another masterful performance in Spain but picked up a yellow card in the 85th minute when he got into a brief fracas involving Antonio Rudiger and Dani Ceballos.
Teammate Declan Rice was visibly upset with Partey after the Black Stars deputy captain got booked; Partey has delivered top-level performances as one of Arsenal’s best players this season.
Picking up the yellow card late at the Bernabeu means that Partey will miss the first semifinal clash against French giants PSG on Tuesday, April 27 at the Emirates Stadium. However, he will be available for selection for the second leg on May 6.
