Two GPL clubs make CAF rankings; Kotoko, Hearts of Oak miss out
Only two Ghanaian clubs, Dreams FC and Medeama SC, are featured in the latest CAF Club Rankings released on June 2, 2025.
Dreams FC is ranked 26th with 12 points, while Medeama SC holds the 51st position with 4 points.
Their rankings reflect their impressive performances in recent CAF interclub competitions.
Notably, Dreams FC made a strong statement on the continental stage by reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup in their debut season.
In contrast, Ghana’s traditional powerhouses, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, are absent from the top 57 rankings.
Despite their rich history, Kotoko, having won the Champions League twice, and Hearts of Oak, being champions of both the Champions League and the Confederation Cup, neither club has reached the group stages of any CAF competition in the past five years, signaling a significant decline in their continental performance.
At the top of the CAF rankings, Al Ahly leads with 78 points, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns with 62 points and Esperance de Tunis with 57 points. Pyramids FC, who were crowned African champions for the first time this season, are currently ranked sixth, while RS Berkane, winners of the Confederation Cup, are in fourth place.
