The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) says its weather monitoring station has detected two rainstorms approaching the country on Thursday, May 16.
According to the forecast released Thursday morning, the storm is expected to commence around 9:30 am from Nigeria.
Heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, will impact areas within the coastal and northern sectors.
“A rainstorm that is moderately producing thunderstorms with rain over northern Benin into Togo is expected to drift further westwards to affect the northern half of Ghana. However, a separate rainstorm observed over Nigeria is also expected to propagate westwards to affect the coastal and middle sectors of the country,” the statement read.
GMet warned that there is a high risk of flooding and windstorms, urging residents in flood prone areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

The recent rainstorm caused significant destruction in parts of Accra, with fallen trees damaging several cars, resulting in the severe injury of a motorcycle rider at Cantonment, near the Italian Embassy in Ghana and destruction to billboards.
Online videos show that the rainstorm also flooded the vicinity of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, and the Mallam-Kaneshie Highway.
Also, a recent rainstorm accompanied by a windstorm in the Volta Region damaged several Senior High and Basic Schools in the Anlo Constituency.
The storm tore off the roofing of structures in seven senior high schools and 18 basic schools, exposing students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff to harsh weather conditions and disrupting academic activities in the affected schools.
In a similar vein, at least 800 residents, including students of Gushiegu Senior High School (SHS) in the Gushiegu Municipality of the Northern Region, were rendered homeless following two heavy rainstorms that hit the area on May 6, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has warned people residing in low-lying areas and waterways to relocate as more rains are expected in the coming days.
