U-20 AFCON: Satellites coach Zito reveals approach to semi final clash against Gambia

Ghana’s U-20 head coach, Abdul Karim Zito, says his side will approach their semi-final against Gambia with a different character and attitude, in the on-going Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The clash will be a rematch of their final Group C game which Gambia won 2-1. The  result saw the Black Satellites place third in the group and qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

Despite losing to the Gambians in their first encounter, Zito is confident his side have identified their errors and will put up a better performance on Monday.

“Football is a game of uncertainties. There’s always an element of surprise and that’s what happened in the group stage against the Gambians.

“But we always have time to make amendments. Meeting them again, what will in change our team is the character and attitude. You can expect that we will amend what we did wrong in the game we lost.”

“Africa football is changing. Previously you can easily say Ghana will beat Gambia but now their standard has improved.

“And there is always an element of surprise but now we are coming into this match like wounded tigers to secure a win”, he said at the Pre- match press conference held on Sunday.

Ghana progressed to the semi-final after overcoming the Young Lions of Cameroon on penalty shoot-out while the Gambia did a walkover against the Central Africa Republic, beating them 3-0.

The match was played on March 1, 2021, at the Stade Olympique in Nouakchott.

Ghana is chasing a fourth Afcon title after wins in 1993, 1999 and 2009.
