Former University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Vice Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke has presented a petition to the Education Minister seeking his intervention in the implementation of a court ruling on his reinstatement.

The former VC on Thursday led a six-member delegation to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and other officials of the Education Ministry to make the presentation.

Prof Avoke also used the opportunity to apologise for previous actions he took, aimed at forcefully taking back his position as Vice Chancellor.

The delegation also apologised to the Minister for acts that sought to ‘sabotage’ and undermine the process of the resolution of the impasse at the University.

Receiving the petition, the Minister for Education stated that the new university council was in the process of being constituted adding that the petition will be passed on to that council for its consideration.

“Once the council has been inaugurated, it will be the responsibility of the university councils to address these governance issues concerning the school so I will do my part and present it to them as you have done,” he stressed.

The Minister further reiterated his commitment to public service devoid of his personal sentiments or interests in the discharge of his duties.

Earlier in July, the Former Vice Chancellor and some staff had stormed the university to take over its management.

According to them, their action was a result of their continuous neglect despite investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) clearing the ousted Vice Chancellor of any wrongdoing.
