[VIDEO] Irate youth set Damongo EC office ablaze

Angry National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the Damongo constituency in the Savannah Region have reportedly set the Electoral Commission’s collation centre in the area on fire.

The development reportedly occurred when the individuals attempted to force their way into the centre to observe the collation, leading to a standoff with security and EC officials.

The angry youth also destroyed ballot boxes and papers from the just-ended general elections, which is likely to affect the collation of final results at the National Collation Centre.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the matter to arrest and bring the perpetrators to book.

Pockets of violence were recorded at multiple locations in Saturday’s election, resulting in two deaths and over 15 arrests.

Nearly 60 people have died, hundreds injured, and several properties destroyed in election-related violence since 2000.
