VIP Bus Traveling From Tamale To Accra Involved In An Accident With A Cargo Car

Information reaching The Ghana Report indicates that a VIP bus travelling from Tamale to Accra has been involved in an accident with a cargo car around Techiman.

It is reported that the accident happened at dawn, but no fire tenders were at the scene after many calls to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Available videos show the two vehicles in flames and destroyed completely.

Road accidents have been a major concern over the years but recorded a decline in 2022, according to data from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.

A statement issued by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) said it was encouraged by the continuous reductions in Road Traffic Crashes, Injuries and Deaths (CIDs) from the year 2022 through to 2023.

Provisional statistics indicated that the CIDs recorded consistent month-by-month reductions in 2022, ending the year with 14,960 crashes, 15,690 injuries and 2,373 deaths representing 7.55 per cent, 1.54 per cent and 20.1 per cent reductions, respectively, compared to the year 2021.

Similar records were registered in the number of pedestrians knocked down on the road by 23.78 per cent, and the total number of vehicles involved in road crashes by 12.63 per cent.

Meanwhile, the NRSA has intensified its “Stay Alive” Road Safety Campaign.

It involves systematically and progressively influencing behavioural/attitudinal change among road users and driving advocacy to admonish greater responsibility and compliance in terms of road safety interventions among stakeholders,

The Ghana Police Service is involved in the exercise, with education and enforcement.
