Voters in the Kumawu constituency have commenced casting their ballots in a by-election to select a new Member of Parliament following the passing of sitting MP Philip Basoah.

Voting officially started at exactly 7 am on Tuesday, May 23.

In all, 34,000 voters are expected to cast their ballot, which will take place in 75 polling stations.

The race for the parliamentary seat features notable contenders, including Kwasi Amankwaa, popularly known as ‘Tom Cee,’ representing the NDC, and Ernest Yaw Anim, the candidate for the NPP.

Two independent candidates named Kwaku Duah are also vying for the seat.

Meanwhile, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have intensified their campaign efforts to secure the highly contested parliamentary seat.

Engaging actively with the constituents, both major political parties have introduced their respective candidates to the local chiefs and residents of the area, seeking their support.

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC, rallied party members in Kumawu, urging them to demonstrate unwavering support for their parliamentary candidate, Kwasi Amankwaa.

The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has also encouraged NPP supporters to turn out in large numbers and vote overwhelmingly for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Ernest Yaw Anim.
