WASSCE 2025: Court jails three over exam malpractice

The Kasoa-Ofaakor District Magistrate Court has handed down sentences totalling 20 months in prison to three persons for their participation in examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The convicted are Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College Senior High School, and two university students, Kwame Oteng Nkansah and Amedeka James.

They were apprehended in Kasoa while committing various exam-related offences.

Armah, who was acting as an invigilator, was discovered with leaked answers to the Social Studies Paper 1 stored on his mobile phone, which he was relaying to students.

He has been fined 80 penalty units and sentenced to eight months in jail.

Nkansah, a first-year student at Accra Technical University, received a sentence of six months and was fined 80 penalty units after attempting to impersonate a fellow student, Quayson Francis Atta, from Ghana College SHS.

Similarly, James, also a first-year student at the University of Ghana, was given the same penalty for impersonating his twin brother, Amedeka Justice, in the same examination.

During a recent inspection of one of the examination centres, Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, the Chief Executive of Awutu Senya East Municipality, identified flaws in the seating arrangements for candidates.

He assured that new measures would be implemented to prevent such breaches in the future.

Municipal Education Director Frank-Etrue Hayford condemned the malpractice and reiterated his dedication to upholding the integrity of the examination process.
