WHO says repeat boosters not good strategy

Repeating booster doses of the original COVID-19 vaccines is not a viable strategy against emerging variants, the World Health Organization (WHO) said as it predicts that more than half of Europe’s population will be infected with the Omicron coronavirus variant within the next six to eight weeks.

Meanwhile, five million residents in China’s central city of Anyang on Tuesday started home confinement in a new lockdown to curb the spread of the highly transmissible strain, according to state media.

Elsewhere, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is under renewed pressure amid a new surge in cases after an email was leaked inviting about 100 staff to bring drinks to a party at his home during the country’s first lockdown in May 2020.
