You could be jailed or fined GHC 6000 for denying your partner sex -Police chief warns
Denying your partner sex is an offence under the Domestic Violence Act, The Central Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit has warned.
According to him, one person can be jailed close to two years or fined GHc 6000
Superintendent George Appiah-Sakyi said “If your wife wears jeans to sleep and causing you emotional abuse it’s an offence and you can report her to DOVVSU,”
Speaking at a sensitization workshop for Muslim women, he explained that the punishment for emotional abuse could be a maximum of two years imprisonment jail term or a fine of 500 penalty units which is equivalent to GH¢6,000 or both.
According to him, the law is also applicable to men who also deny their wives sex. He encouraged such emotionally abused women to also lodge complaints with the police.
To this end, he urged husbands not to feel shy to report their abusive wives to the police.
The police chief was also quick to explain that under no circumstance should husbands reject food prepared for them by their wives as this also amounts to the same abuse.
“If your husbands refuse to eat your food and make you unhappy and cause you emotional pain, you can also report them to the police. If your husband comes home late and causes you to be unhappy you can make a case at DOVVSU,” he said adding that all these are enshrined in the Domestic Violence Act 732 of 2007.
