Young ones should learn from us—Slim Busterr

UK-based Ghanaian Highlife artiste Slim Busterr has stated that young musicians should make it a point to learn from their seniors as the latter have a lot to offer.

Speaking with the Graphic Showbiz from his UK base recently, Slim Busterr said it was rather unfortunate that young musicians were reluctant to learn from the older ones.

“It is a pity but they don’t see the need to learn from us even though we are more experienced and have so much to offer them.

“Imagine what these young ones can tap from the likes of Kojo Antwi and Daddy Lumba, yet they don’t find it necessary to approach them, not to talk of learning from them.

“These older artistes have a lot up their sleeves that will go a long way to help the young ones.

“The sad thing is that whenever the names of any of the older ones come up, all they say is ‘oh, they are spent forces’ so why will they even think of coming to us for advice? It is unfortunate but that is the situation on the ground.

“I do Facebook Live and I have said this same thing over and over but nothing has changed.

“The young ones have completely ignored the older ones and are going about their craft without a care.

“I just hope that things will change and there will be more collaborations between the young and older ones.

“It does not necessarily have to be collaborations but it will be great if they even come to us for advice concerning their craft.

“As I said earlier, we are more experienced and have so much to offer them whether they like it or not,” he stated.

This reporter asked him about a statement he was alleged to have made that he is more handsome than most of the young ones and this was his response.

“Oh that, I just said that in passing. It was during an interview with one of the bloggers and he asked me how I see the up and coming artistes so I jokingly made that statement but it was nothing serious and not meant to mock anybody.”

Slim Busterr, who has been pursuing other businesses in the United Kingdom alongside his music career, said he is currently working on an album.

“I have been busy in the studios and my latest album should be ready towards the end of the year.

“God willing, I will come to Ghana to release it before the end of the year,” he said.

He used the opportunity to give his candid opinion on the current music industry. “It is not doing badly at all, honestly, we now have a lot of talents and that is good for the industry.

“Though I have stated earlier that the young ones should learn from us, I must admit they are not doing bad but with a little guidance, they will get to the next level,” he said.

The Masherita hitmaker was full of praises for Alordia Promotions, organisers of the Ghana Music Awards UK for helping put Ghana and Ghanaian music out there.

“I think they are doing a good job and ought to be commended, they should be given all the support to enable them push their agenda,” he indicated.

Slim Busterr has been in the music industry for over two decades and he is also a terrific dancer.

He is known for songs such as Masherita, Mesan Aba, Oh My Baby, Asembi, Etoile, Eye Fe Keke among others.
