A 10-year-old boy has allegedly died after mistakenly shooting himself with a gun he saw on the ground at Osino in the Eastern Region.

According to reports, he saw the locally manufactured pistol on the street of Osino while searching for metal scraps, locally known as ‘alumi’.

He is said to have hit the pistol with a stone, and it fired, hitting him in the chest and killing him instantly.

According to an eyewitness who only identified himself as Mensah, the boy was walking with his father when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The police were called to the scene and began investigations immediately.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear how the pistol got to the scene.

In a similar incident, a nine-year-old boy accidentally shot himself dead with a pistol he found under his father’s mattress at Asofan, near Amasaman in Accra some years ago.

The boy, identified as Michael Asante, a primary four pupil, was found in a pool of blood with the pistol lying about half a metre away after his mother and other neighbours heard the gunshot.
