GPL: Asante Kotoko move top after comeback win

Asante Kotoko SC reclaimed top spot of the Ghana Premier League on Saturday after a comfortable win over Dreams FC at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

The Porcupine Warriors came from behind to record a 3-1 win over the Still Believe side in a Match Week 23 fixture.

The result sees Asante Kotoko move top on the league standings, above Great Olympics and Medeama SC who has a game in hand.

Dreams approached the game with revenge on their minds following the first round results while Asante Kotoko were looking forward to a double over the Dawu-based club.

Dreams after seeing most of the ball in the early stages of the game broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through a spot kick.

Brazilian playmaker Fabio Gama dos Santos had handled the ball inside the penalty box.

The home side fought back and restored parity few minutes later  through Brazilian striker,Michael Vinicius.

Making his first start, Vinicius leveled scores with a header to connect a delightful cross from Emmanuel Gyamfi.

Back from recess, Asante Kotoko asserted their superiority over Dreams as they pushed them back with consistent attacks.

Head coach of KotokI, Mariano Barreto made an attacking change with Augustine Okrah coming off for Osman Ibrahim before the start of the second half.

Three minutes after the start of the second half, Kotoko made another attacking change as Francis Andy Kumi came on as a substitute for the first half goal scorer, Vinicius.

Asante Kotoko got their noses in front for the first time in the game after defender Abdul Ganiu Ismail converted a penalty in the 57th minute.

Kotoko kept on pushing and were rewarded with yet another goal this time around from Andy Kumi who connected a pass from Mudasiru Salifu following an excellent run 10 minutes from full-time.

The Porcupine Warriors now lead with a point Tally of 41 points with Olympics dropping to second with 40.

Meanwhile, Medeama SC who are third on the league with 39 points have a chance to reclaim top spot when they face Liberty Professionals on Sunday.
