2022 World Cup qualifiers: Ethiopia to host Ghana in Kenya

The 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifier between Ethiopia and Ghana is expected to be played at the Nyayo International Sports Stadium in Kenya.

This emerges after the Confederations of African Football [Caf] declared the host nation, Ethiopia’s Bahir Sports Stadium in Addis Ababa unfit to host international games after its club licensing senior manager, Muhammad F. Sidat carried out an inspection of the venue.

Per the assessment, the stadium failed to meet at least seven of CAF’s requirements which according to the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) included substandard medical facilities, VIP, Media centres and also training facilities.

Ethiopia was ordered by Caf to submit a new venue to host the Black Stars in November latest Wednesday 20 October 2021, and that led to them settling on the Nyayo National Stadium in Kenya.

Reports say the Ethiopia Football Federation has sent a request to the Football Kenya Federation over the use of the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi in the World Cup qualifications.

The new venue will host the two teams in the matchday 5 fixture on November 11.

Ghana defeated Ethiopia in the first leg at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in August and will be hoping to complete a double over them to keep the chase on Group G leaders South Africa.

Ghana is currently 2nd on the standings in Group G with just a point behind leaders South Africa who they host in the last game of the group at home on November 17.
