2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Ghana coach Chris Hughton to ring changes for Mozambique showdown

Ghana coach Chris Hughton is expected to tweak his starting line-up to face Mozambique in their final group game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

After a disappointing defeat to Cape Verde in the opening game, Hughton made changes to his starting lineup, replacing Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer, Joseph Paintsil, and Baba Iddrisu.

The adjustment paid off for Ghana after playing out a 2-2 draw against Egypt in the second group game. Ghana were denied three points following two critical errors from the defense.

Ahead of the crucial game against Mozambique on Monday night, the former Premier League manager is anticipated to make further tweaks to the lineup.

It is likely Alidu Seidu will make his first appearance at the tournament by replacing right-back Denis Odoi, who endured a difficult game against Egypt.

Majeed Ashimeru sustained an injury against Egypt and is racing against time for the game. However, Asante Kotoko star Richmond Lamptey could step in his absence.

On the other hand, Inaki Williams, who failed to excel against Egypt will likely start from the bench, making way for Joseph Paintsil for the make-or-break encounter.

Ghana need a victory against the Mambas to progress to the next round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire likewise Mozambique, who will also sail through with a win in Monday’s match.

Cape Verde have already won the group after back-to-back wins over Ghana and Mozambique. Egypt are second with two points while Ghana and Mozambique have a point apiece.
