310 Ghanaian students win 2019 Chinese government scholarship

310 Ghanaian students from various institutions have been awarded with full scholarships by the Chinese government to study in China.

At a short ceremony held in Accra to celebrate the awardees, His Excellency, Shi Ting Wang, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana said, the gesture by the Chinese government shows its commitment to the development of human resources in Ghana

According to him, the 310 Ghanaian awardees outnumber all the other countries in terms of scholarship provided by the Chinese government.

“China and Ghana shared a same belief that investing education is investing the future, H.E President Nana Akufo-Addo raised the flag of the Free SHS and TVET program, which we strongly agree and support” he said.

He urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity to learn the Chinese language and familiarize themselves with the people and the culture

“Education is key for the development of a country, learning Chinese and study in China are becoming a desirable thing for youth in the world, because China represents the future of the world, by studying in China you grasp Chinese language to conquer Chinese and become the pillar of national development.”

“I believe you will find that the Chinese government scholarship not only changes your personal destiny but also opens up a whole new world for you and brings a better future for Ghana” he said.

On his part, Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who was the guest of honour for the occasion said, the government believes that “education is the shortest route between deprivation and opportunity and a vital tool by which a nation can lift its citizens from poverty to industrial growth.”

That he said, underpinned the government’s commitment to providing Free Senior High School education, promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education (STEM), together with Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

He expressed the hope that the beneficiaries of the scholarship would return home with enhanced skills to drive Ghana’s economy through innovation, science and technology just as China had done.

“I encourage you to embrace this as an exciting new chapter in your lives, a chapter of exploration, opportunity and promise. Do your best to tap into the rich history of China, their incredible talents and dynamic passion to succeed so you can come back and contribute to the national development of this nation,” Dr. Prempeh added.
