35-year-old found dead in a river

The body of a 35-year-old man, identified as  Kwasi Nkrumah,  has been found in a river at Ayerdo in the Central Region.

The cause of death is not immediately known, but some residents believe it was suicide.

According to the family and neighbors of the deceased, his death was sudden as there was nothing wrong with him.

Pastor Fredrick Peprah, a relative of the deceased, said his cousin was discovered dead in the river, and so he immediately informed the police. The body has since been deposited at the mortuary awaiting autopsy.

It is reported that Kwasi Nkrumah was a multi-talented man who worked as a plumber, and mason, amongst others.

According to Mr. Peprah, the deceased left behind seven children and a wife.

Recently, cases of deaths attributed to drowning have become rampant in the Central Region.

On  November 21, 2022, a form one Gyaase Senior High School (SHS) student drowned in a river at Assin Endwa in the Assin North District of the Central Region.

The incident occurred when Joseph Asante attempted to fetch water to bathe after the entire community experienced a cut in water supply from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

In confirming the incident, the Assin North Educational Director, Dr. Juliet Otami Boateng, said the 18-year-old boy and his colleagues went to River Konkoon to fetch water to bathe after a water shortage on campus.

However, he slipped and fell into the river, leading to his death.

The school was reported to rely solely on a community water system and has no mechanized borehole as a backup.

Therefore, they rely on River Konkoon for water whenever there’s a shortage in the water supply.
