The 2023 Women in Agribusinesss(WiA) Awards, which aims to recognise the contribution of women to sustainable agribusiness growth in Africa, has been launched.
Organised by Guzakuza on the theme: “Celebrating Women Blazing the African Agribusiness Trail”, the week-long ceremony will be held in the Greater Accra, Northern Region and the Ashanti regions.
At the launch in Accra last Tuesday, the Project Lead for Guzakuza, Fortune Kyei, said despite women-led agribusinesses’ huge involvement in the growth of the African economy, their efforts were disregarded.
She said her outfit believed that women were doing a lot especially when it comes to agribusiness, hence their achievements needed to be recognised.
She explained that the event sought to highlight the achievements of exceptional women in the agribusiness ecosystem who have risen above the odds and limits to lead the way for others to emulate.
“This is an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of remarkable women who have overcome challenges and made a real impact in African agribusiness,” she said
Ms Kyei added that this year’s event would be climaxed with activities including the Women in Agribusiness Forum, Women in Agribusiness Tour and Women in Agribusiness Expo.
A representative of the Winners and Finalist Club in agribusiness, Priscilla Asare, said the awards scheme has been a source of inspiration to not only women aspiring to enter the field of agribusiness but to society in general.
She said the success from previous event proved that gender has no barrier to excellence and encouraged women to embrace agribusiness as a viable and rewarding career.

The categories for this year’s awards include She–Innovative in Agribusiness; Agritech of the Year; Perseverance Award; Emerging Star in Agribusiness; Role Model Excellence Award; Environmental Impact Award; Best Agri Advocacy; Role Model Excellence; Best Packaging Agribusiness of the Year; Best Farmer Award; African Agribusiness Woman of the Year; New Business of the Year; Business Diversification; Green Business of the Year and Diversity and Inclusion.
The rest are Export Agribusiness of the Year; Young Agri Entrepreneur of the Year; Marketing Innovation; International Agribusiness Woman of the Year; Agrippina of the Year; Agri Journalist of the Year; Agri Finance of the Year, and Best Agribusiness/ Agricultural Student of the Year.
