MTN Ghana appoints four new directors as two step down

Scancom Plc. (MTN Ghana) has announced the appointment of four new Independent Non-Executive Directors as two take a bow.

To enhance skills and diversity, MTN Ghana announced the appointment of Mr Felix Addo, Ms Nana Ama Botchway, Mr Kofi Dadzie and Ms Rosie Ebe-Arthur.

They will take over from Mr Kwasi Abeasi and Mr Modupe Kadri. Having served for years on the board, Mr Abeasi and Mr Kadri are expected to step down on March 1, 2021.

In a statement, MTN Ghana wished the new appointees “every success in the discharge of their duties”.

The new Independent Non-Executive Directors shall hold office until the next Annual General Meeting of MTN Ghana, where they shall be eligible for re-election by the shareholders of the firm.

The changes follow a year of profitability from GH¢ 1billion in 2019 to GHC 1.4billion at the end of 2020.

MTN Ghana is the biggest telecommunication firm in Ghana.

IN 2020, service revenue went up by 16.4% to GH¢5,9billion as subscribers also increased by 23.4% to 24.4 million to firm their grip on the largest share of users in Ghana.

Active data subscribers soared by 32.4% to 10.8 million, just as active Mobile Money (MoMo) users rose by 16.3% to 10.6 million.

Profile of new directors

Mr Felix Addo is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ experience who served as a Partner at PwC over an 18-year period.

He currently serves on the boards of various organizations including Guinness Ghana Breweries (Chairman), Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (President), as well as various for-profit and non-profit organisations.

For Ms Botchway, she served as a non-executive director of the Ghana Airports Company Ltd., the Ghana Petroleum Sovereign Wealth Funds, GHL Bank Ltd and Brainworks Capital.

She is the founder and managing partner of N. Dowuona & Company, a leading corporate and commercial law firm in Ghana.

Mr Dadzie is a digital entrepreneur who is one of the pioneers in the establishment of Rancard Solutions Ltd.

He serves as a non-executive director of Rancard Solutions Holdings and subsidiaries and also as a director of IC Asset Managers.

Ms Ebe-Arthur is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD.

She has worked at the Standard Chartered Bank rising to Head of Human Resources, West Africa with responsibility for Nigeria, Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire, Cameroun, Gambia and Sierra Leone.

Ms Ebe-Arthur is currently the Group Head, Human Capital Management & Development for First Bank Nigeria and Subsidiaries and is accountable for setting the People Strategy across the Banks footprint in Africa, United Kingdom and the representative offices in France and China.

Profile of outgoing directors

Mr Abeasi joined the Board of MTN Ghana in 2011, as an Independent Non-Executive Director, bringing a wealth of experience to the Board over his 10-year period of service.

On the other hand, Mr Kadri, who was MTN Ghana Chief Financial Officer from 2014 to 2019, served as Executive Director of MTN Ghana from 2015 to 2019.

He subsequently served as a Non-Executive Director of the Company from 2019.
