May 13 declared a statutory holiday

President Akufo-Addo, through the Ministry of Interior, has declared Thursday, May 13, 2021, a statutory holiday.

A statement signed by the Ministry said the day “marks Eid-ul-Fitr and should be observed as such throughout the country”.

Each year, depending on the Islamic calendar, a day is set aside to celebrate the completion of the 30-day fasting and prayers by Muslims.

Eid al-Fitr also called the “Festival of Breaking the Fast” or lesser Eid, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims to mark the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.

This religious Eid is the only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast.
