45 staff at Education Ministry infected with coronavirus
Education Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has revealed that at least 45 people at the ministry have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.
The sector minister was giving a riveting account of his road to recovery from the virus when he made this revelation on Peace FM’s morning show on Thursday.
“50 people have already done the tests and I can say that 45 of them have tested positive to the virus. They have been asked to go on self-isolation.
“We all use the same facilities, almost the same washroom…when they bring food in the afternoon, we pick it up to our various offices. The virus is likely to spread,” he said.
Asked whether the 45 people are currently at the hospital, he stated that they are on self-isolation but added that is even dangerous.
“The isolation is even dangerous, looking at the way our houses are small. How are you going to isolate under these circumstances.
“Being in isolation also leaves you thinking, how many people did I come into contact with or how many people could I have possibly infected,” these are questions the minister said lingers on during the isolation period.
The sector minister’s revelation comes in the wake of government agencies and private businesses closing down and relocating to work from home.
Earlier, the Ghana Cocoa Board firm was hit by a significant number of COVID-19 infections, which led to the closure of its Accra offices.
GRIDCo’s Tema office also confirmed that one of its staff had tested positive.
The Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST) also closed its office after 46 employees had tested positive.
Finance Ministry, in a release, had directed its staff to work from home following the outbreak.
