Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an independent candidate in the upcoming Ejisu by-election, has clarified that he is only loved by supporters of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), but he has not switched allegiance from the NPP to the opposition party, as his opponents have speculated.
According to him, the genuine love the members of NDC have for him stems from his tremendous work in the past, which benefitted everyone during his tenure as the Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency.
Addressing the media after wrapping up his campaign activities over the weekend, Mr Aduomi stated, “I am not an NDC member. The NDC people like me because of the work I did that benefited them. Where have they seen me wearing NDC colours? The NDC people want to vote for me because I am going independent and because of the work that I did for the constituency”.

“I am not a traitor and NPP should rather solve all issues bothering all members of the party and should not favour some people against others.
“That bogus elections that they said they held at the polling stations, if the president has the party and the Ejisu constituency at heart, he will ensure that the issues that the people brought will be solved”.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission(EC) has cleared six candidates to contest in the Ejisu by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
The candidates are Esther Osei (CPP), Kwabena Boateng (NPP), Beatrice Boakye (LPG), Kwabena Owusu Aduomi (Independent), Gabriel Agyemang Joseph (Independent), and Attakorah Joseph (Independent).
The by-election has become necessary due to the death of the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr John Ampontuah Kumah, on March 7, 2024, after a short illness.
Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially stated that they will not partake in the Ejisu by-election.
The NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, addressed the media and key participants at a programme dubbed ‘Moment of Truth’ and explained that the party was focusing on preparing for the main parliamentary elections in December this year, which was why the party’s leadership was not considering the Ejisu by-election.
“NDC will officially not be taking part in the Ejisu by-election. We have already set into motion processes leading to December 7, just a few months away. We want to continue those processes and ensure that come December 7, we are prepared to combat in all the constituencies and Ejisu will be one of them. So for this particular by-election, NDC will not be part of it. We are very confident about the processes we have in place. We just want to make sure we have the time to implement them fully. And between now and December 7, we will be in the position to make sure we are deploying everything that we have done so that really will be the way we want to go,” he noted.
