Fire has razed over 180 container shops at the Race Course Market in the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

According to the affected traders, the fire destroyed wares worth millions of Ghana cedis.

The cause of the fire is unknown but firefighters from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Fire Station have initiated an investigation on the incident.

Fire Commander for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Fire Station, D.O 3 Simon Ben Boadu speaking to journalists on the fire outbreak indicated that they received a distress call from some traders around 2:00 am on Monday, March 11, 2024.

“We had difficulties accessing the scene but managed to stop the fire after getting full access to the place, it took my men about five hours to douse off the ravaging fire,” he stated.

He indicated that no casualty was recorded.

Meanwhile, the leader of the traders at the market, Nana Kyeiwaa is appealing to the Chief of Staff to come to their aid.

This comes on the heels of a fire incident that saw the gutting of the dining hall of Lassie-Tuolu Senior High (LASSEC) on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

The fire outbreak resulted in the destruction of both wooden and concrete structures used for storing food supplies.

This has forced authorities to close down the school temporarily.
