Abronye remanded, set to reappear in court on Sept. 12

Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, has been placed in police custody and is scheduled to return to court on Friday, September 12.

The Ghana Police Service, in an earlier statement, confirmed his arrest on Monday, September 8, citing “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace”.

He was detained earlier that day and remains in custody.

While the police have not disclosed the full details surrounding the conduct that led to his arrest, the case has piqued national interest due to Abronye’s political stature.

Currently, he serves as the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is recognised for his forthright political commentary.

His arrest comes in the wake of several recent events, including his applications for political asylum in eight countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, and Côte d’Ivoire.

In these applications, Abronye accuses the government of political persecution and threats to his life, alleging a misuse of state security agencies for political purposes.

As part of the investigation, police also reportedly searched the residence of former NPP Youth Organiser Moses Abor on Sunday; however, Abronye was not present at that time.

The case is expected to continue on Friday, with the court set to hear the charges and decide on the subsequent steps.
