AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Black Stars defender Patrick Kpozo blames bad pitch for draw against Madagascar
Moldova-based defender Patrick Kpozo believes the pitch had an effect on the Black Stars’ game against Madagascar in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
The 25-year-old started and lasted the entire duration of the 0-0 draw against Madagascar at the Stade Barea Mahamasina in Antananarivo on Sunday.
The former Inter Allies star was given his first start in the absence of regulars, Baba Rahman and Gideon Mensah due to injuries.
After the game, Kpozo blamed bad pitch for the Black Stars’ stalemate against Madagascar at away.
“Very happy to have made my debut for the national team. Dreams come true. This isn’t what we wanted. Played on a bad surface and was difficult to play. Next game we will surely put a smile on the face of Ghanaians,” he wrote on Facebook.
He made 24 appearances in all competitions for Moldovan champions FC Sheriff Tiraspol this season.
Kpozo won double his outfit in the just-ended season (Moldovan Cup and Premier League).
Ghana remains top of the group after Sunday’s draw with 9 points from five games with one more match to go in September against the Central African Republic in Kumasi.
