Afcon Qualifiers: Madagascar appoints new head coach ahead of Ghana return leg

Rakotondrabe Romuald has been named Madagascar’s new head coach ahead of their game against the Black Stars of Ghana.

Romuald will take over for Nicolas Dupuis, who quit as Barea head coach just a couple of days ago.

The new coach is accustomed to the Malagasy national team, having previously guided them to the CHAN tournament in Algeria.

The football association’s official statement reads:

“The Malagasy Football Federation is pleased to announce the new coach to lead BAREA national team for our last two games in the AFCON qualifiers.

Rakotondrabe Romuald, a Malagasy technician who is unique among all brought high national honor during the last CHAN. His experience and strategic vision are believed to inspire the national team to build a new foundation and strengthen our pursuit of success on the field.

Rakotondrabe Romuald Felix is ready to take on his role and work closely with the players, technical staff and supporters of the Malagasy national team. Together we will walk to success and do everything to reach the common goal,”

Madagascar will take on Ghana in Antananarivo on June 18th. Ghana leads Group E with 8 points after four games while Madagascar is bottom with 1 point. Ghana beat Madagascar 3-0 in the first leg on 1st June 2022.
