Aggrieved Algeria fans ‘invade’ team hotel to attack FA president, coach and players after AFCON exit

A section of Algerian football fanatics invaded the team’s hotel to express their displeasure about their performance after suffering elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The 2019 AFCON winners were booted out of the Nations Cup on Tuesday after failing to beat minnows, Mauritania.

Coach Amir Abdou’s side inflicted a 1-0 win over Algeria to seal qualification to the knockout stage, leaving the North African side bottom in Group D.

Defender Yali Dellahi scored the only goal to secure the three maximum points for Mauritania.

However, some aggrieved fans of the national team attempted to assault the FA president, coach Djamal Belmaldi and players but were restrained by the Ivorian security.

The security personal at the premises intervened as players and other members of the Algeria national team were smuggled in.
