Akonnor records first win as Black Stars coach

C.K Akonnor has secured  his first win in charge as Black Stars coach following a comfortable victory over Qatar at the Titanic Stadium, Antalya in Turkey.

An improved performance from the team produced a  5 – 1 thrashing of Asian champions on Monday.

It was the team’s second international friendly match after a disappointing 3-0 loss to Mali 3 days ago.

It was an impressive display for Tarique Fosu who grabbed his first Ghana goal on the 22nd-minute as he capitalized on a loose ball following an impressive show of strength and grit by Jordan Ayew.

Qatar managed to grab an equaliser through Ali Almoez, after a defensive error from the Ghanaian defenders.

The Black Stars maintained control of the game for long spells as Thomas Partey and Andre Ayew came close to giving Ghana the advantage.

The Swansea playmaker grabbed his first goal of the game as he collected a pass from Thomas Partey which he placed beyond the reach of Al Sheeb.

Samuel Owusu was rewarded for his hard work as he extended the lead of the Black Stars of Ghana.

With 10 minutes remaining, Black Stars captain Andre Ayew bagged a brace before Caleb Ekuban buried the game with Ghana’s fifth of the night.

The Black Stars will now play Sudan in a double-header of the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
