Akufo-Addo grants first batch of free SHS policy students scholarship for further studies

The first batch of the Free Senior High School policy students, who have excelled in the WASSCE to get scholarship. 

The scholarship covers academic facility, user fees or tuition fees for all accredited local tertiary institutions, both public and private.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat on Tuesday.

“The Ghana Scholarships Secretariat following a directive from President Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, in a press conference dubbed ‘The Big Announcement’ formally opened the online scholarship application portal for the first batch graduates of the free SHS policy,” the statement said.

The news comes barely a month after a social media appeal for a student from the Adeiso Senior High School in the Eastern Region touched the heart of the president.

The student, Thomas Amoani who obtained grade A1 in all eight subjects in the 2020 WASSCE and comes from a deprived home, was unable to further his studies due to financial challenges.

But he was subsequently granted full scholarship by President Akufo-Addo.
