Alan will never return to NPP – Buaben Asamoah

Private legal practitioner and advisor to the Movement for Change, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, says the Leader of the Movement (MFC), Alan Kyerematen’s exit from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is for good and that he will never return to the NPP.

According to Buaben Asamoah, who was also the immediate past Director of Communications for the NPP, nothing in this world can push Mr Kyerematen to return to the party of which he’s a founding member.

Alan John Kyerematen, former Trade and Industry Minister, announced his resignation from the governing NPP in September 2023, citing the intimidation of his supporters as the reason.

He declared his intention to contest the 2024 election as an independent presidential candidate after he placed third during the party’s Super Delegates Congress to elect a flagbearer.

There have been calls on the hierarchy of the NPP to try and get Mr Kyerematen back to the party.

Rumours suggest that efforts are being made to talk to Alan who is also a former Ghana Ambassador to the US and was considered a colossus in the NPP to return to the party to ensure it solidifies its front ahead of the 2024 general election, which promises to be keenly contested.

But speaking in an interview, Yaw Buaben Asamoah denied any such ongoing talks with Mr Kyerematen, adding that the latter has nothing to do with the NPP anymore, hence it is impossible for him to return.

“There’s no truth in rumours that there are talks with Mr Kyerematen to rescind his decision to go independent and return to the NPP. He has no such intention to return to that party. There is no need for any talks with Alan. He’s left the NPP and he’s gone for good; there’s no turning back. He remains confident that he can lead Ghana as an independent president, and that is his stance. Any such rumours of talks to get Alan back to the NPP must be treated with the contempt that it deserves.”
