‘Watch Your Tongue’ Ambassador cautions NPP, NDC, others ahead of 2020 elections

As Ghana prepares for election 2020, a police officer on a crusade to bring sanity into political discourse in the country, says the use of the tongue has the power to make or unmake the country next year.

A court warrant police officer, Sergeant Daniel Ofori Appiah, is urging political leaders and the general public to use “pleasant” campaign message over derogatory and hate speeches ahead of the 2020 election.

Sergeant Ofori, who is a lead campaigner for ‘Watch your Tongue’ believes it is important to communicate effectively without using hate speech, abusive words, defamatory statements that can create tension especially during the electioneering period.

He is hoping to use the campaign to tame the acrimony that characterises elections in Ghana.

In an interview with The Ghana Report, Mr Ofori Appiah stressed on the need to preach peace in order to ensure a peaceful election.

According to him, people can vote for leaders who make a practice of using pleasant words as campaign messages.

“Pleasant words, words of admiration, words that do not have the tendency to promote violence, words that will not cause conflict. As a watch your tongue Ambassador and a Police officer, I always want people personal safety, hence the need to preach peace. “

Adding his voice to the call for safety during the Christmas festivities, Mr Ofori Appiah urged the populace to be cautious of their actions.

The reactivated “Watch Your Tongue” (WYT) campaign  aims at highlighting the negative effects of bad utterances on people and society at large.

It was birthed from a peace campaign started during the 2016 elections to promote peace and unity.

The campaign focuses on three main areas—human utterances, human actions and the use of social media.
