Bank of Ghana hospital to be used for treatment of ‘coronavirus VIPs’

Completed but unused, the Bank of Ghana hospital is finally set to be put to use, treating coronavirus patients.

But, it would be for Very Important Persons (VIPs), the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, disclosed at a press briefing.

“We have had engagements with the Bank of Ghana and they’ve released two floors that will take care of 20 beds for our use.

“Because the facility doesn’t belong to Ministry of Health, Bank of Ghana has agreed that their own people and some VIPs personnel will be allowed there.

“So, in case we have some of you here as VIP people, we’re likely to take you there,” the minister jestered.

The 60-bed Bank hospital, which was completed in 2017, is yet to be operationalized despite the installation of state-of-the-art equipment and hospital materials.

The Bank of Ghana hospital is not the only health facility which has left unused.

The opposition NDC has criticized government for leaving several health infrastructure started during the Mahama administration uncompleted or abandoned. Some of these facilities include the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC) and the International Maritime Hospital.

Ghana has been using selected hotels and tourist facilities as quarantine centers. The minister said these places would be disinfected before they are handed over to their owners.

Ghana’s total number of coronavirus cases increased by 34, less than 24 hours after it recorded nine cases.

The total number of cases is now at 195 with 5 deaths.
