Bawumia Attends Swearing-in Ceremony of President Ruto of Kenya

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has left Accra for Kenya to represent Ghana at the swearing-in of William Samoei Arap Ruto, President-elect of Kenya.

He was accompanied by the 2nd Lady, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, Thomas Mbomba, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, and other senior government officials.

William Samoei Ruto was the first elected Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya and was sworn into office on 9th April 2013. During his tenure as the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, he was the principal assistant to the President, and he deputised the President in executing the President’s functions.

As the Deputy President, he performed the functions conferred by the Constitution and any other functions of the President as the Head of State may assign.

William Ruto acted effectively and provided the President with the support he needed to govern effectively. The Office of the Deputy President was established in the Constitution. He was elected as the President of Kenya on 15th August 2022.

President William Samoei Arap Ruto is married to Rachel Chebet, and the union is blessed with seven children.

Vice President Bawumia, together with his wife, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, Thomas Mbomba and the other government officials, will return to Accra on Wednesday, 14th September.
