A businessman has been re-elected for the fifth consecutive time as the Assembly Member for Amanfo East District in Takoradi, the Western regional capital.

Prince Arthur Bornah was first elected Assembly Member in 2002 and has never looked back, he told theghanareport.com in an interview Wednesday.

The 54-year old man is set to reach 22 years in power by the next district-level elections in 2024.

Tuesday’s election was “one of the easiest”, he said and revealed he is yet to receive all the results from his campaign team.

It wouldn’t matter, however, as the result is one of several déjà vu for the businessman who is also the New Patriotic Party chairman for Takoradi Constituency in the region.

It is a position that allows him to put together a well-motivated campaign team ensuring the elections is a fait accompli.

He has been described as the ‘Mugabe of Amanfo East’ and his victory means the name won’t change any time soon.

In Ghana’s Parliament, there is a ‘Mugabe’, the name of the late former President of Zimbabwe who is one of Africa’s long-serving leaders.

The 62-years old Nadowli West MP and Second Deputy Speaker, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin wears that hat in Ghana.

He has been there since 1993. That was Ghana’s fourth start into democratic rule.

Prince Arthur Bornah said the District Assembly elections is like Parliament. And at that level, he remains a Mugabe.
