CHAN 2020 Qualifiers: Konadu seeking to surprise Burkina Faso in second leg

Black Stars B head coach, Maxwell Konadu, has sent a warning to the Burkina Faso B team ahead of the second leg of their final round of the 2020 Qualifiers to be played in Ouagadougou on Friday, October 18.

Konadu says his opponents will face a very different Ghana team than the one they met in Kumasi two weeks ago in the first leg.

Ghana lost that match 1-0 thanks to a late Stephane Pognongo goal and Konadu’s men will have to win the second leg by two clear goals if they will book a ticket to the next African Nations Championships in Cameroon next year.

Konadu is basing his confidence in the fact that Ghana beat Burkina Faso on penalties in the WAFU Cup of Nations and their new-found understanding of their opponents will be key in the return leg.

“The players were down after losing the WAFU Cup final but they are responding and by the time we get to Burkina Faso, the players will be ready.

It has not been easy because we lost to Burkina Faso in Kumasi and then, we got to take them on again in Senegal and beat them on penalties. We now have to face them again in Burkina Faso.

We know it will be a physical encounter but we know them now and they will be panicking because the team they faced in Kumasi is not the one they will meet on Friday. We have transformed and they will see that we will play far better than we did in the first leg.

I am very confident that we will make it to the CHAN tournament.”

In the WAFU Cup of Nations, Ghana held their nerve to beat Burkina Faso on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time and they will need to show the same resilience if they will overturn a 1-0 deficit and make it to the CHAN tournament.
